My name is Dr. Maayan Shacham, and since 2012 I practice general dentistry as well as psychotherapy sessions to patients in Israel. In addition, I actively engage in unique research projects related to medical, dental and mental health.

During my work as a dentist, I treated a variety of patients with a pleasant, caring and holistic approach. Over the years, I realized that I love and enjoy talking with my patients (before, and also after the dental treatment). As a result, the decision to acquire additional education and another profession in the field of mental health rewarded me. I chose to study Master of Social Work, a fascinating field that treats a person not only from a psychological aspect, but also from social aspects.

 

In this way, I was able to expand my horizons and treat my patients while referring to all the aspects that make us up as human beings. This is the most considered therapeutic model - the biopsychosocial model. Thanks to the knowledge and experience I have gained, and I continue to learn all the time, I know how to integrate the biological, psychological, and social mechanisms in treatments with the patient and together, we help to understand themselves better.

In recent years, I dedicated my work to treat individuals dealing with different mental health states such as anxiety, trauma, addiction, obsessive-compulsive related disorders and men’s mental health. I’m currently practice psychotherapy in my private psychotherapy clinic, Located in Raanana, Israel, as well as in public setting in Israeli hospitals.  I treat every individual with respect to gender and sexual orientation.

 

My topics of interest include anxiety disorders including social anxiety, obssessive-compulsive related disorders (OCD), addiction medicine/ substance use disorders, psychosomatic medicine, traumatic events, and dealing with life crises.
